The journal follows established principles of responsible scholarly publishing and expects all authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process to uphold honesty, transparency, accountability, and respect for intellectual property.
The following publication ethics principles apply to all manuscripts submitted to and published by the journal.
1. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are original, accurate, and prepared in accordance with the journal's guidelines.
Authors must:
-
Submit original work that has not been published elsewhere.
-
Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.
-
Provide accurate and complete information about the community service activities being reported.
-
Properly acknowledge all sources, ideas, data, and materials used in the manuscript.
-
Ensure that all individuals who made significant contributions to the work are appropriately recognized as authors or contributors.
-
Obtain appropriate permission when using copyrighted materials belonging to third parties.
-
Disclose relevant financial or non-financial conflicts of interest.
-
Declare sources of funding or institutional support where applicable.
-
Ensure that research or community engagement activities comply with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional requirements.
-
Cooperate with the editors in correcting errors or inaccuracies identified after publication.
Authors must not engage in plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, data manipulation, or other forms of academic misconduct.
2. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors are responsible for managing manuscripts fairly, objectively, and professionally.
Editors must:
-
Evaluate manuscripts based on their academic quality, relevance, originality, and suitability for the journal's scope.
-
Make editorial decisions independently and without discrimination based on personal characteristics, institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, religion, political views, or other irrelevant considerations.
-
Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
-
Select appropriate and qualified reviewers.
-
Manage potential conflicts of interest.
-
Ensure that peer review is conducted fairly and appropriately.
-
Take reasonable action when ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct arise.
-
Correct, retract, or withdraw published articles when justified by reliable evidence.
Editorial decisions must not be influenced by commercial interests or relationships with authors, institutions, or other parties.
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality of the journal.
Reviewers are expected to:
-
Conduct reviews objectively, constructively, and within the agreed timeframe.
-
Evaluate manuscripts based on academic and scholarly criteria.
-
Provide clear and constructive comments that can help authors improve their manuscripts.
-
Maintain the confidentiality of all information contained in the manuscript.
-
Not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal or professional advantage.
-
Identify relevant published work that has not been appropriately cited.
-
Inform the Editor of any suspected plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or other ethical concerns.
-
Declare any potential conflict of interest and decline the review when necessary.
4. Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct
JPL: Jurnal Pengabdian Leuser does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct.
Submitted manuscripts may be checked using plagiarism or similarity-detection software. A similarity score is not, by itself, considered definitive evidence of plagiarism. The Editorial Team evaluates the context, sources, quotations, references, and nature of the similarities before making an editorial decision.
Where academic misconduct is identified, the journal may take appropriate action, including requesting clarification or revision, rejecting the manuscript, notifying relevant institutions when appropriate, correcting a published article, or retracting an article.
5. Fabrication and Falsification
Authors must accurately report the activities, methods, data, outcomes, and impacts presented in their manuscripts.
Fabrication of data or results, falsification or manipulation of information, misleading presentation of findings, and intentional omission of relevant information are considered forms of academic misconduct.
6. Duplicate and Redundant Publication
Authors must not submit or publish substantially the same manuscript in more than one journal.
Any significant overlap with previously published or submitted work must be transparently disclosed to the Editor. Duplicate or redundant publication may result in rejection, correction, withdrawal, or retraction, depending on the circumstances.
7. Authorship and Contribution
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, implementation, analysis, documentation, or writing of the reported community engagement activity.
All listed authors must have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission and publication.
Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged where applicable.
8. Conflict of Interest
Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could potentially influence the publication process.
Editors may take appropriate measures to manage disclosed conflicts, including reassignment of editorial or review responsibilities.
9. Ethical Conduct of Community Engagement
Because JPL: Jurnal Pengabdian Leuser publishes reports of community service and community engagement activities, authors are expected to respect the rights, dignity, safety, privacy, and well-being of participating communities and individuals.
Where applicable, authors should obtain appropriate institutional approval, informed consent, permissions, or other ethical clearances before conducting activities involving human participants, personal information, photographs, interviews, surveys, or other sensitive materials.
Authors should avoid presenting communities or individuals in a misleading, discriminatory, exploitative, or harmful manner.
10. Data and Supporting Information
Authors are expected to maintain accurate records supporting the findings and activities reported in their manuscripts.
When appropriate and ethically permissible, relevant supporting data, instruments, documentation, or other materials may be made available to facilitate transparency and verification.
Personal, confidential, or sensitive information must not be disclosed without appropriate authorization.
11. Use of Artificial Intelligence
Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts when using artificial intelligence or generative AI tools during manuscript preparation.
AI tools must not be listed as authors. Where the use of AI substantially contributes to the preparation, analysis, or presentation of the manuscript, authors should provide an appropriate disclosure in accordance with the journal's author guidelines.
Authors remain responsible for verifying AI-generated information, references, quotations, data, and other content.
12. Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawals
The journal will consider corrections, withdrawals, or retractions when significant errors, ethical violations, or other issues affecting the integrity of the scholarly record are identified.
Corrections will be issued when errors can be appropriately corrected without invalidating the main findings. Retraction may be considered when there is reliable evidence that a published article contains serious errors or misconduct that substantially affects its reliability.
13. Complaints and Appeals
Authors and other stakeholders may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions, peer-review procedures, publication ethics, or other journal-related matters.
Complaints and appeals will be handled fairly and confidentially and will be reviewed in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and principles of publication ethics.
14. Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are based on academic and ethical considerations. The journal does not permit commercial, financial, institutional, or personal interests to improperly influence editorial decisions, peer review, or publication.
JPL: Jurnal Pengabdian Leuser is committed to continuously improving its publication practices and maintaining a trustworthy scholarly record through responsible editorial management, rigorous peer review, transparency, and adherence to academic integrity.
